Taco Quiche!

I came up with the idea of making a Mexican style quiche when Anuar brought a bag of quesadilla cheese to my house. One of these quiches is made with Al Pastor meat and the other is made with soy-rizo, the veggie version of chorizo. Both of these quiches have cilantro, jalapeƱo goat cheese, queso cheese and tomato.

Kelsey and I whipped these up for our sweaty man friends and they were gone in 30 minutes!

Iowa State Fair Peach Pie Competition

These are just some of the peach pies from the Iowa State Fair competition. I never win but I love to enter and meet other bakers. Can you spot my pie?

The day before the fair I made two pies with two different kinds of peaches, because it's hard to predict how the peach will taste after it bakes.
You never know who you will get for judges. I've noticed that they focus on different things from year to year, so you could make a pie that would win in 2015, but wouldn't win in 2017.

I also made a small pie for us to enjoy at the hotel.

Apple Pie for Lady Armstrong

I made this apple pie for our dear friend Lady Armstrong and her family of hungry warriors. The earwig is Lady A's symbol and I thought it would work well to ward of pesky flies.

Apple Crisp Pie

I made this pie because people love my mother's apple crisp and I thought it would be even better in a buttery pie shell.

Father's Day Quiche 2017

Today I made a quiche for my father because he is a big fan of eggs, bacon and cheese. I also added some salted onions for some depth of flavor.

My Father's Birthday Apple Pie

Life threw some punches and I haven't had a reason to make a pie since Thanksgiving. Well, today is my wonderful father's birthday and what would be a better gift other than his favourite kind of pie?

The crust on this pie was so flakey and buttery it was hard to work with, but all my swearing paid off.

He's not smiling because I haven't served him yet.
